Do the local elections matter to people? Why do they matter? And, assuming they do, who should people vote for? I went out and about to hear from locals and to interview the candidates for the Cantelowes ward.
For people who are politically engaged at a local level, then the local elections are fantastic. There’s a chance to get to know the candidates personally and to really have your voice, your opinion, heard. But as most people (including myself outside of the radio show) are not engaged in their local area, they can feel like a waste of time.
Special thanks to councillor Phil Jones and to Cat Sinclair-Jones for taking the time to talk. The Conservatives let us down but Will Blair in their press office did his best for us and has since been chosen as their candidate for MP in the borough.
